‘The Song’s The Thing’ at the Waiting Room this winter
Tuesday evenings at the Waiting Room will be set alight this winter
with a unique musical collaboration between thirteen of Cape Town’s best singer songwriters.
Hosted by Ian Henderson, each week’s show will feature three different artists
on stage together, collaborating in a re-invention of each other’s songs.
Each artist will play a couple of songs solo, but the emphasis is on harmony,
taking musical risks and creating the unexpected.
Audiences will get a unique musical experience, with an insight into the kind of exchange that
normally
only takes place in a rehearsal studio… all enhanced by the Waiting Room’s laid back, intimate atmosphere.
The schedule is as follows:
9 June: Ian Henderson, Joshua Grierson & Simon van Gend
16 June: Ian Henderson, Mapumba & Julia Jakobsen
7 July: Ian Henderson, Matt Allison & Anthony Oseyemi
14 July: Ian Henderson, Simon van Gend, Paul Abro & Nate Maingard
21 July: Ian Henderson, Steve Smith, Anton Marshall & Joshua Grierson
28 July: Ian Henderson, Mapumba, Stanley Zive & Verity
4 August: Ian Henderson, Julia Jakobsen & Andy Lund
The shows take place at the Waiting Room on Cape Town’s Long Street from 8.30pm.
Entrance for individual shows is R30, and a season ticket can be bought for R80 that allows access to all seven shows.
Tickets can be purchased at the venue on the night of the show.
A grand finale ‘best-of’ event will be held at a theatre in Cape Town at the end of August (details to follow).
